Freedom of Choice for All Pedigree Dogs
Our Purpose
The New Zealand Council of Docked Breeds (NZCDB) was re-established in 2004 to fight the introduction of a Private Members Bill into New Zealand Parliament ~ The Animal Welfare (Restriction on Docking of Dogs' Tails) Bill.
The NZCDB was first formed to fight the proposed inclusion of a ban in the Animal Welfare Act in 1997. The Council were instrumental in having the Tail Docking Section removed from the Act and New Zealand breeders maintained their Freedom of Choice.

Our Passion
Our passion is a preservation of our existing rights as guardians of our selected breeds. This encompasses all dog welfare issues, not simply tail docking. The NZCDB has also been involved in the Tail Docking issue in the UK, Australia, the USA, South Africa and Canada.
We also worked closely with numerous New Zealand organisations helping and encouraging them to make submission if their policies or procedures would be affected by the proposed Bill.
The Tail Docking issue is internationally viewed as the "thin edge of the wedge" with regard to continued dog ownership. In European countries, Breed Specific Legislation follows very closely on the heels of this fight. This topic is becoming more apparent in New Zealand as well.
Our catch phrase is "Freedom of Choice" on all canine issues.
